Here, the Arabian Sea rolls in against red laterite cliffs and Portuguese whitewash; the air carries frangipani and salt and the distant suggestion of cardamom. And through it all, the railways run — from the magnificent sweep of the Konkan line cutting through jungle and viaduct along the coast, to the beloved Matheran Heritage Railway climbing through forested Western Ghats to a hill station where motor vehicles have never been permitted and time appears to have stopped entirely. This eleven-day escorted journey moves between three of India's most compelling destinations: the overwhelming vitality of Mumbai, the golden languor of Goa's beaches and Portuguese heritage, and the extraordinary quietude of Matheran. It is a tour designed for those who wish to experience India deeply rather than quickly — by train where possible, unhurriedly always, in the company of fellow travellers who share a taste for the authentic.
Detailed Itinerary
Day 01 – Arrival in Mumbai – A Gentle Introduction Your journey begins in Mumbai, India’s vibrant financial and cultural capital. On arrival, you are met and transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day is intentionally unhurried, allowing time to relax after your international flight. For those wishing to explore, the historic Fort district offers a fascinating introduction, with its colonial architecture, the iconic Taj Mahal Palace Hotel, and bustling cafés. Overnight: Mumbai
Day 02 – Vande Bharat Journey to Goa – Along the Konkan Coast An early start takes you to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus to board India’s flagship Vande Bharat Express. As the train glides south along the spectacular Konkan Railway, enjoy breakfast onboard while passing rivers, forests, and glimpses of the Arabian Sea. Arriving in Goa in the afternoon, you are transferred to your hotel in North Goa, where the pace of life slows and the coastal atmosphere sets in. Overnight: North Goa
Day 03 – North Goa – Forts, Coastlines & Character Today explores the vibrant northern coastline of Goa, where Portuguese heritage meets contemporary beach culture. Visit Fort Aguada before continuing to Anjuna and Vagator beaches, known for their cliffs and sweeping views. The afternoon is relaxed before returning to your hotel. Overnight: North Goa
Day 04 – Leisure by the Arabian Sea A full day at leisure to enjoy Goa at your own pace. Relax by the beach or explore cafés and optional experiences. Overnight: North Goa
Day 05 – Into South Goa – Serenity & Space
Day 06 – Cultural Goa – Churches, Temples & Heritage
Day 07 – Leisure & Optional Experiences Journey south to a quieter side of Goa known for pristine beaches and a relaxed atmosphere. Afternoon at leisure. Overnight: South Goa Visit the Basilica of Bom Jesus, Se Cathedral, and Mangueshi Temple, showcasing Goa’s cultural diversity. Day 08 – Return to Mumbai – From Coast to City Train journey back to Mumbai followed by hotel transfer and evening at leisure. Overnight: Mumbai
Day 09 – Matheran Heritage Railway – A Step Back in Time Travel to Neral and board the Matheran toy train through forested hills before returning to Mumbai. Overnight: Mumbai
Day 10 – Mumbai – Culture, Contrast & Iconic Landmarks Visit Gateway of India, Elephanta Caves, Dhobi Ghat, Marine Drive, and Colaba markets. Overnight: Mumbai
Day 11 – Departure Transfer to airport for onward journey.I
